Christmas WreathThis one has been a long time coming! I bought everything to make this wreath years and years ago, but just never got around to it. I guess that's what happens when everything you own is packed up in boxes for years and years. My Christmas decorations finally saw the light of day this past year, and as a result I finally put my Christmas wreath together. I was so happy with how it turned out! And it was super easy. I bought a plain green wreath, and all the trimmings my heart desired. Then I laid it all out, pulled out my hot glue gun, and voilla! A Christmas wreath I can actually stand behind. :) |
Learning Hats
My sister asked me to make some Disney-themed winter hats for her baby, and this was the result. Super cute, but I need to figure out the sizing a bit...they were a wee bit too big. They'll probably fit him next winter! :) I had so much fun with these hats, that I had to try my hand at a few more for the new twins in our family, and their big sister, of course. The sizing was better on these, but could still use some work.
Baby!
I've made an afghan for every baby my siblings have had. It's been awhile since a new baby has come along, so I was a bit excited for this one. I made him a normal afghan that is great for floor play, and also an afghan for his LDS blessing day. Babies wear all white for their blessing, so it was fun to make a pretty all white afghan!

So Proud!
My best friend graduated with his Masters of Social Work degree this past April. So proud of him! The feeling of graduating and figuring out the next step is still fresh for me and I don't envy his position. He still has a licensing exam hanging over his head and will have to apply for jobs before long. Although I know these things can be stressful, I also know the Lord is in these details of our lives.
We are His projects, and I find great peace and joy in knowing that! No matter where life leads us, we are in His hands, being molded and shaped into exactly what He needs us to be in order to be of the greatest service to Him. May I ever be a moldable project!

Really Happening
I know it's crazy, but it's really happening! This book is really being published in the Fall. Part of me won't believe it until I'm actually holding it in my paws, but the fact that you can go onto amazon.com right now and pre-order our book makes it all feel pretty real. You should go online and buy our book! |
Dress Rehearsal
You already know Mom and I are writing a book. What you may not know is that we are also developing a workshop with the same material. We presented for the first time yesterday at the Timpanogos Story Works Conference in Provo, Utah, and it went so well! I love being able to apply the things I've learned in my life and graduate studies in ways that help lift and bless the lives of others. If we can reach just one person, that is enough for me! We were blessed to be able to reach multiple hearts yesterday, though, and I feel both humbled and blessed by the trust the Lord has placed in us.
I'm excited for our next workshop on February 22nd at RootsTech/Story@Home in Salt Lake City, Utah. Come see us!

Writing a Book
My mom and I have been talking about writing a book for ages. Wonder of wonders, miracle of miracles, we found an interested publisher (Familius Publishing), and the rest has been a whirlwind! Our book is slated for publication this coming fall, and we are excited!!
It combines our experiences with a father/husband battling chronic respiratory illness, my thesis research with families battling adult-onset chronic illness including chronic pain, our experiences working with at-risk children and teens, and the power of story. These stories have power and need to be told. We also talk about some things you can do to intentionally strengthen your family through any trial you may be called upon to face. We all face them!
It has been challenging to co-create such a huge project with a woman who is just as stubborn and feisty as I am, but I have loved every minute of it. I will forever be grateful for the experiences that have trained me, for a mom who doubles as my best friend, and for the incredible opportunity to tackle this together.
We'll also be presenting a workshop about these topics at 2 conferences. Check us out at Timp Story Works (http://www.timpfest.org/storyworks/presenters) and RootsTech/Story@Home (http://rootstech.org/stories). Wish us luck!

Beginning Lace
I've become fairly decent at making afghans over the years. Lace is uncharted territory, but territory I want to master! Bucket list items: lace tablecloth, lace altar cloth for LDS Temple.
I took my first foray into the world of lace this Christmas and am happy with the results! Check out these snowflake ornaments I made for coworker gifts this year. I still have much to learn, but am encouraged by my first successful venture. :)

Years in the Making
I did it! I finally finished the afghan I've been crocheting for years. Literally. I started this afghan for my brother and sister-in-law ages ago, but the project was derailed by graduate studies and the births of a new niece and nephew whose afghans took precedence. I finally finished this project in time for Christmas, and was so happy to give it to them!
Crochet is one of my most favorite ways to create beautiful things. It doubles as an incredible way to express love and appreciation for the people in my life. And the hours I put into each new project are always worth the grateful faces at the end! I love curling up in afghans and quilts and feeling the love of those who have spent so much of their time making something beautiful for me, and I hope those I create for feel the same love when they wrap up in my creations!
I'm already a quarter of the way through my next project. No revelations until the gift has been given though!
